Winter classes begin today at The Art Center, 344 S. Main St.

The cost is $7 an hour for nonmembers and $5 an hour for members.

Masks and Mosaics with Michele Marchak, 4:30 to 6 p.m. today and Feb. 17 and 24, for all ages. Students will choose a theme for the mask in colored tiles, then break and glue the tiles to create their art. The mask will be put on a backing board that will also be tiled or painted to be a finished hanging or standing piece.Cost is $36.50 for nonmembers and $27.50 for members and includes supplies.•

Kid’s Painting with Kate McLaughlin, 5 to 6 p.m. Feb. 16 and 23 and March 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, for ages 5 to 10. Students will explore different kinds of paint and various techniques. They will use watercolor paints, tempera paints, India ink, oil pastels, and paint they will make from scratch in the classroom.Cost is $49 for nonmembers and $35 for members.•

Acrylics with an Edge — Not Your Grandma’s Art Class with Shaunenne Holt, 4 to 6 p.m. Feb. 16 and 23 and March 2, for age 14 to adult. Textured paintings appeal to two different senses visual (eyes) and tactile (touch). Students will learn how to make quick, highly texturized, eye catching acrylic paintings.Cost is $42 for nonmembers and $30 for members.•

Adult Make It in Clay: Hand-Building and Wheel-Thrown Pottery with Annastaysia Savage, 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 16 and 23 and March 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, for age 18 and older. Using clay as the medium, students will learn the various techniques for manipulating the clay into sculptural forms. The ceramic processes to be taught will be hand-building, coiling, drop molds, form molds, pinching, slab work, wheel work, scoring and basic surface decoration.Cost is $157 for nonmembers and $115 for members and includes 25 pounds of new clay. Additional clay will be available for $10 per 25 pounds.•

Teen Drawing with Kate McLaughlin, 4 to 5 p.m. Feb. 17 and 24 and March 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31, for ages 14 to 17. Teens will learn drawing techniques such as gesture drawing, contour line drawing, shading, and perspective. They will create drawings every week for the first half of the class to practice techniques and then spend the second half concentrating on a final piece that will combine the concepts into a finished artwork.Cost is $49 for nonmembers and $35 for members.•

Art History with Kate McLaughlin, 5 to 6 p.m. Feb. 17 and 24 and March 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31, for ages 9 to 12. Students will learn about artists and history through fun and age-appropriate activities. Different techniques will be used each week so students can sample different art-making methods.Cost is $49 for nonmembers and $35 for members.•

Kids Advanced Drawing with Kate McLaughlin, 5 to 6 p.m. Feb. 18 and 25 and March 4, 11, 18, 25 and April 1, for ages 9 to 13. Students will learn concepts taught in school but in greater detail. They will study one and two point perspective, shading and sketching techniques. This is a flexible class which can be adapted to the interests of the students.Cost is $49 for nonmembers and $35 for members.•

February Model Session: The Portrait with Maria Leysens, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 19, for age 18 and older. The first of monthly model sessions will focus on the portrait. Actual model/painting time will be four hours with short breaks to give the artists time to study and complete their image. All ability levels and mediums are welcome but know that there is only a class monitor, not instructor in class. Take your art supplies, easel and lunch.Cost is $25 for nonmembers and $20 for members, which includes coffee and snack.•

Steampunk Class: Playing with Resin with Shaunenne Holt, 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 19 and 26, for age 14 to adult. Steampunk is an art mixing technology and romance. Students will assemble and match pieces of: old watches, computers, splashes of paint, decoupage, ink, drawings or photos.Cost is $30 for nonmembers and $22 for members.•

Saturday Family Crafts with a variety of teachers, 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 19 and 26 and March 5, 12, 19 and 26, for age 11 to adult. Each Saturday, parents and children will create art together. The classes will range from making sculptures from found objects to origami and decoupage.Cost is $84 for nonmembers and $60 for members.•

Uncle Mike’s Box of Junk Sculpture Class with Michael “Uncle Mike” Rehm, 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 19, for all ages. Learn how to make fun and eye-catching objects of art from old toys, CD players and the like.Cost is $14 for nonmembers and $10 for members.•

Decoupage Class with Shaunenne Holt, 2 to 4 p.m. March 5, for all ages.Learn about decoupage techniques and materials. Reincarnate a small piece of furniture into an interesting piece. Students can make their our own cards, frames or books.Cost is $16 for nonmembers and $12 for members.
