EWING, Ky. — Woodie Fryman, who pitched 18 seasons in the major leagues and was inducted into the Montreal Expos' Hall of Fame in 1995, has died. He was 70.

Fryman won 141 games from 1966-83 with the Expos, Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs. He pitched primarily in relief late in his career, saving 17 games for Montreal in 1980.

Fryman had four career one-hitters — including a nearly perfect game when he was a Pittsburgh rookie. He gave up a leadoff hit to the New York Mets, the runner was caught stealing and Fryman didn't allow anyone else on base.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy isn't exactly known for his public displays of bluster, and didn't provide anything even close to bulletin board material for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the buildup to the Super Bowl.Behind closed doors, though, McCarthy pulled something pretty brazen the night before the game: He had his players fitted for rings.

SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake City native won $1 million Sunday after a commercial he directed topped the USA Today Super Bowl Ad Meter.The winning “Pug Attack” Doritos ad that aired at the beginning of the Super Bowl was created by J.R. Burningham, who graduated from Alta High School and attended the University of Utah.The commercial shows a man mocking a dog with a bag of Doritos through a glass door. The pug then knocks down the door and eats the chips.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — An American army officer serving in Afghanistan has won the chance to play with Tiger Woods in the Dubai Desert Classic pro-am on Wednesday.Lt. Col. Michael Rowells, who has a nine handicap and is deployed currently with the 401st Army Field Support Brigade, beat 16,000 other amateur golfers in a draw ahead of the tournament’s traditional curtain raiser at the Emirates Golf Club.Rowells called it “a dream come true.”
