BUTLER TWP — Call it a quick catch.

Just a couple hours after a knife-brandishing robber stuck up a convenience store Tuesday night, police had a suspect.

And less than a day later, they had a confession.

Mark A. Edwards, 25, of Butler Township was arrested Wednesday and charged with robbing the Country Town store at Route 8 and Litman Road

He allegedly made off with more than $350, said Detective Sgt. Nathan Teslik.

Edwards is in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail, on charges of robbery, theft and receiving stolen property.

Police were called to the store about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday immediately after a ski mask-wearing bandit walked in with a knife and demanded money from the lone female clerk working there. She was not hurt.

The robber drove away in a damaged, silver Oldsmobile Alero.

Police fanned out looking for the car and the unknown suspect.

By 9:30 p.m., they found a car that matched the description of the one used in the robbery, Teslik said.

During their investigation, police discovered that a surveillance camera at a McDonald’s restaurant next to the store had captured the suspected getaway car on video, Teslik said. That car, police said, is owned by a friend of the suspect’s.

Police Wednesday re-interviewed Edwards. At 5 p.m., he allegedly admitted robbing the store.

By that time, however, he had spent the money.

Teslik declined to say what Edward bought with the money. He also would not say if police recovered the knife used in the holdup.
