JACKSON TWP — A township police officer facing charges stemming from a violent domestic dispute with his live-in girlfriend was fired Monday by the township.

Officer Kenneth Bowland was fired from his post effective Monday in an unanimous vote by the township supervisors in the morning.

The supervisors did not comment on his termination.

Bowland, 35, is charged with two counts each of aggravated assault and simple assault and one count each of terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person.

He remains jailed in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $25,000 cash bail. His preliminary hearing is Feb. 9 before District Judge Tim Shaffer.

According to a state police report, troopers responded to a dispute call about 4:19 p.m. Dec. 23 at the couple’s home on Rapp Lane in Franklin Township.

Nikki Geibel, 32, told police that Bowland had choked her and elbowed her in the head before punching her in the stomach, causing her to vomit blood.

Geibel also told troopers Bowland had pointed a gun at her on Dec. 21 and threatened to shoot, but she did not flee because Bowland threatened to harm her family if she left.

Bowland became a full-time officer in 2006.

Bowland had been on medical leave because of a work-related injury sustained about a year and a half ago.
