PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates have promoted P.J. Forbes to manager of Double-A Altoona, replacing Matt Walbeck.

Walbeck was fired less than two weeks after Altoona won the Eastern League championship last season.

Forbes previously managed at rookie-level Bradenton, which will now be managed by former Pirates first base coach Carlos Garcia.

Dean Treanor, formerly the pitching coach, moves up to manager of Triple-A Indianapolis. Frank Kremblas, who previously managed Indianapolis, replaces Pirates bench coach Jeff Banister as the organization’s coordinator of instruction.

Dave Turgeon, previously the pitching coach at Virginia Tech, will manage Class A State College. Gary Robinson, State College’s manager last season, moves up to Class A West Virginia.
