FRANKLIN TWP — A Jackson Township police officer was jailed Thursday on charges he assaulted his live-in girlfriend at their home and threatened her with a gun.

Kenneth C. Bowland, 35, is charged with two counts each aggravated assault and simple assault and one count each of terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person.

He is in Butler County Prison in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.

According to a state police report released this morning, troopers responded to a domestic dispute call at the couple’s home on Rapp Lane in Franklin Township about 4:19 p.m. Thursday.

Nikki Geibel, 32, told police that Bowland had choked her and elbowed her in the head before punching her in the stomach, causing her to vomit blood.

Geibel also told troopers Bowland pointed a gun at her on Tuesday and threatened to shoot, but she did not flee because Bowland threatened to harm her family if she left.

According to Sgt. Tim Amrhein, Bowland began with the department part-time in 2005 after passing through its hiring process.

Bowland became a full-time officer in 2006, has a clean service record, and is described as “a decent officer” by Amrhein, who confirmed Bowland has been on medical leave because of a work-related injury sustained about a year and a half ago.

His preliminary hearing is Dec. 29.
