Underdogs pull off upsets

Keith Benson had 26 points and 10 rebounds and Oakland (Mich.) beat No. 7 Tennessee 89-82 Tuesday night, three days after losing by a point to then-No. 7 Michigan State.

The defending Summit League champion had already been almost too much for the Spartans, Illinois and Purdue to handle before grabbing only their second win over a ranked opponent in 27 tries since joining Division I in the 1998-99 season.

It was the second time the Volunteers lost on their home court in Knoxville, Tenn., to a nonconference opponent in coach Bruce Pearl's six seasons. The loss came one day after Tennessee climbed into the Top 10 and grabbed the No. 1 RPI after beating then-No. 3 Pittsburgh Saturday.

The Vols held a 76-68 lead with 7:18 left. Oakland (6-5) used a 13-0 run of mostly free throws and took an 81-76 lead.

Tennessee (7-1) missed four free throws and a few 3-pointers down the stretch.

At Louisville, Ky., Gerald Colds scored 20 points and Drexel handed Cardinals their first loss in their new downtown arena.Chris Fouch added 10 points for the Dragons (7-1), who ended Louisville's best start in 14 years.The Cardinals (8-1) shot 32 percent and were outrebounded 46-26.Preston Knowles and Peyton Siva led Louisville with 13 points each but the Cardinals made one field goal over the final 8:30 as the Dragons posted their first win over a Top 25 team since 2006.Louisville had eight straight wins at the KFC Yum! Center to start the season and enter the rankings.

At Austin, Texas, Gary Johnson scored 17 points and tied his career-high with 12 rebounds for Texas.Cory Joseph scored 18 points for the Longhorns and hit 4 of 8 3-point attempts for the Longhorns (8-2).
