PITTSBURGH — The NFL fined Ravens linebacker Jameel McClain $40,000 Monday or his helmet hit that left Steelers tight end Heath Miller with a concussion.

Ravens nose tackle Haloti Ngata was fined $15,000 for hitting Ben Roethlisberger's helmet and breaking the Pittsburgh quarterback's nose. Ngata's left hand raked across the quarterback's face during Pittsburgh's first offensive series. Ngata was not penalized.

Roethlisberger played the entire game, which Pittsburgh won 13-10. He underwent surgery on the nose Monday.

MORGANTOWN — Seneca Valley High graduate Don Barclay, a redshirt junior left tackle on the West Virginia University football team, was named a Big East first-team selection by national college football writer Phil Steele.Barclay (6-feet-4, 304 pounds) started every game and helped the Mountaineers to a 9-3 record.WVU will face North Carolina State in the Champs Sports Bowl Dec. 28 in Orlando.<B>

CHICAGO — Slippery Rock University senior kicking specialist C.J. Bahr is a finalist for the Fred Mitchell Award.This award is presented to the NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA kicker who excels on the field and in the community. Bahr is one of 10 national finalists.The 2010 winner will be announced Dec. 15 and will be honored Feb. 21 at the National Football Foundation Chicago Metro Chapter Awards Ceremony at Halas Hall.

BUTLER TWP — Butler County Community College sophomore setter and opposite hitter Sarah Beals is a NJCAA honorable mention All-American.The Seneca Valley graduate led the Pioneers women's volleyball team to a 24-7 record and a Region XX runner-up finish.She had 413 kills, 501 digs, 107 aces and 275 assists in her only season as a setter.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos on Monday fired coach Josh McDaniels, whose nearly two-year stint was marred by the Spygate II videotape scandal, a series of personnel blunders and the franchise’s worst skid in four decades.Running backs coach Eric Studesville will serve as interim coach for the final month, succeeding McDaniels, 34.After winning his first six games his rookie season, McDaniels, a disciple of New England coach Bill Belichick, lost 17 of his last 22 games with the Broncos in his first NFL head coaching job.
