Harping About
The Butler County Symphony Orchestra concert Dec. 4 at the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium will feature an ensemble of eight harps.
The theme for this 62nd season is “Images,” and this concert is focused on “Visions of Sugar Plums.”
The ensemble, called HarpFx, is made up of eight adult and student musicians, ranging in age from 9 to 50-something, who are students and former students of Julia Ann Scott, principal harpist of the orchestra.
Scott along with Craig Johnson, former principal flutist of the Butler symphony, formed the group earlier this year in order to bring the art of the harp ensemble more into public view.
With the orchestra, the ensemble will play “Waltz of the Flowers” from “The Nutcracker” and “Fantasia on Greensleeves.” Alone, the ensemble will also play a medley of carols.
The orchestra will play Richman’s “Hanukkah Festival Overture,” the “Charlie Brown Christmas Medley,” “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s “Messiah” and Anderson’s “Sleighride.”
A “Silent Night” basket auction is planned as a fundraiser.
Thirty-one baskets, each valued at a minimum of $100, will be displayed at the symphony office from Monday until Dec. 4, when they will be taken to the intermediate high school for the holiday concert.
Tickets on baskets are five for $5; 15 for $10; and 35 for $20. The winning tickets will be drawn and baskets awarded during intermission.
