Merrimack (Mass.) scored the first 13 points of the game and stormed to a 20-point halftime lead en route to an 87-69 victory over the Slippery Rock University women’s basketball team Friday in the Courtyard by Marriott Classic in North Andover, Mass.

SRU (0-2) finished the game shooting 47.1 percent from the floor (24-51), including 10-of-19 3-pointers.

Danielle Smith led The Rock with 21 points, and Alex Beatty had 20 points, including four 3-pointers.

SRU was to face Shepherd in the consolation game Saturday.
