SRU hoop squad suffers 61-54 loss
Jabril Bailey scored a team-high 20 points and Maron Brown added 10 points and 11 rebounds, but the Slippery Rock University men's basketball team dropped a 61-54 decision to Alderson-Broaddus at the PSAC/WVIAC Challenge at Shepherd (W.Va.) College Saturday.
SRU (0-2) held a 45-35 rebounding advantage, but The Rock committed 17 turnovers for the second consecutive game.
SRU defeated host Indiana (Pa.) 1-0 Saturday to finish the season at 6-14, the win total the most since 1998.A win by Indiana would have put the Crimson Hawks in the PSAC Tournament. Katie Krouse took a pass from Gabrielle Malishchak and scored in the 56th minute of play.Lisa Belcastro made 10 saves to record her third shutout of the season.
Blaine Miller rushed for 225 yards on 33 carries and scored two second-half touchdowns as Grove City College closed out the regular season with a 35-21 victory over Thiel College in the 27th annual Mercer County Cup game Saturday.Ed Reith (10 carries for 98 yards) and freshman quarterback Brian Pell each ran for touchdowns while Pell completed a 20-yard scoring pass to Luke O’Hara.The Wolverines (5-5, 3-4) rushed for a season-high 369 yards.
