CALIFORNIA, Pa. — The Slippery Rock University women’s soccer team opened NCAA tournament play Friday with a 3-1 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan at California (Pa.) University.
The 22nd-ranked Rock (14-3-4) ran its school-record unbeaten streak to 14 games.
Alyssa Barrett, Danielle Turner and Shelby Ward scored for SRU.
The Rock had a 13-8 edge in total shots. West Virginia Wesleyan (12-4-2) had a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Rock faces 10th-ranked Cal at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Men’s BasketballJabril Bailey and Maron Brown scored 21 and 19 points, respectively, but The Rock dropped an 83-70 decision to host Shepherd University in the PSAC-WVIAC Challenge.Brown also recorded 15 rebounds while Tabari Perry scored 12 points. Butler High graduate Jade Burka was one of three players to tally five rebounds.
