Roberta McMillen

McMillen

Roberta Mary McMillen passed away Thursday in Peoria, Ariz., after a lengthy illness due to renal failure.

She was born Aug. 15, 1926, in Mars, to the Rev. and Mrs. John Warren. She had 13 siblings.

She graduated from Mars High School and worked at the A&P grocery store in Mars.

She married Robert Milton McMillen on Nov. 16, 1946, and settled in Evans City.

In the early 1970s, Roberta or "Bobbie," as she liked to be called, moved with her husband and two sons to the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C. She and her husband became real estate brokers and opened their own real estate company in Suitland, Md. McMillen Realty was known for introducing the "For Sale By Owner" concept, whereby they would assist homeowners with the necessary paperwork to sell their homes for a flat fee. Their early success helped change the real estate industry mode of business.

After her husband passed in 1981, Bobbie retired from real estate and moved to Frederick, Md., where she met her future husband, Kinsey Plummer. Together Bobbie and Kinsey settled first in Colorado to be near her son and his family. They then moved to Vantana Lakes, Sun City, Ariz., where they enjoyed their passion of square dancing and ballroom dancing. Kinsey passed away suddenly while they were on a cruise to Bermuda.

Subsequently, Bobbie moved to the Sierra Winds Life Care residence in Peoria, Ariz., where she served as president on the residents council. In addition, Bobbie served as president and treasurer of the Sunland Mourning Association, known as Rise and Shine, where she did volunteer grief counseling. She also was an avid bridge player.

Bobbie is survived by her son, Robert, his wife Deborah, and son, Dennis McMillen; her brothers, Paul, Jerry, Phil, James and Sam Warren; her sisters, Priscilla Warren Oakes and Faith Warren Cookson; a sister-in-law, Jean McMillen; and brother-in-law, Earl McMillen. In addition, Bobbie has two grandsons, Robert Scott McMillen and Timothy McMillen; as well as granddaughters, Christina and Denise and their husbands, Zubair Khan and Nick Marshall, respectively.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers John, David, Daniel and Joel Warren.
