Best of Show in The Art Center's current exhibit was awarded to Tom Sheehan for his watercolor painting "Bed and Breakfast."

The Associated Artists of Butler County announced the winners of the "Butler County Art & Artists" exhibit at a formal reception Friday at The Art Center, 344 S. Main St.

Winning Best in Show and a $500 cash award in the "Art & Artists" show was Tom Sheehan for his watercolor painting "Bed and Breakfast."

Judge's Choice and a $100 cash award went to Cassandra Crocker for her watercolor painting "Starry Starry Night."

Other awards included:

PaintingFirst place and a $100 cash award to William Perry of Harmony for his watercolor "Middle Lancaster Church";Second place also to Perry, for his watercolor "Long Shadows";Third place to Sheehan for his watercolor "Still Life";Honorable mention to Maria Kovalenko Leysens for her watercolor "Baba's Old House."

Sculpture and 3-D First place and a $100 cash award to Wanda Spangler-Warren of Sarver for her illuminated mixed media sculpture "Swirling Vortex — Beginnings";Second place to Trevor King of Slippery Rock for his mixed media sculpture "Struggle of Civilization";Third place to Mark Pitluga of New Castle for his ceramic vase "Chi";Honorable mention also to Spangler-Warren for her illuminated mixed media sculpture "Vibrissae."

Drawing & photographyFirst place and a $100 cash award to Linton Pitluga for his untitled photograph;Second place to Joy Bradley for her pencil drawing "Kline's Barn."The "Art & Artists" exhibit will be displayed through Nov. 19 at The Art Center.Admission is free. Gallery hours are noon to 6 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

Sunnyview contestAlso recognized were the many AABC artists who are providing artwork to adorn the halls of the Sunnyview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center's Memory Care Unit's permanent art display, which is designed to help stimulate memory and conversation among the residents suffering from Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.Artists Mary Kay Richardson and Lisa Sten were also honored for their donated wall mural at the Sunnyview memory care unit, and Janice Nearhoof was recognized for the wheelchair tote bags she created and donated to residents at Sunnyview.Finalists in the contest to adorn the memory care unit are: Mary Bittner, Debra Kuminkoski, Don Bear, Aryl Bashline, T.J. Sheehan, Lisa Sten, Mary Kay Richardson, Dona Boots, Don Wonderling, Evelyn Green, Judith Raabe, Tom Panei, Linda Hynes, Jesse Allen, Joy Bradley, James Hulings, Gloria Yochum, Amanda Lee Weimer, Marcia Walls, Lisa Trefsger-Krack and Elouise Woodward.
