Russell E. Lawton, 89, of Butler passed away at 9:10 p.m. Friday at his home.

He was born Sept. 26, 1920, in Elderton, the son of the late Frank Lawton and the late Bessie (Boyer) Lawton.

Russ was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of the Mount Chestnut Presbyterian Church.

He was the former owner of Lawton Ready Mix Concrete and Trucking, and he also owned and operated Russ Lawton Auto Sales.

Russ was a member of the Butler Moose and a lifetime member of the Butler Elks Club.

Surviving are his wife, Bert (Anderson) Lawton; two daughters, Kim (Daniel) Beachem of Butler and Carol Hines of Butler; a son, Mark (Diana) Holmes of Prospect; seven grandchildren, Danny Beachem, Brittney (Andrew) Larimore, Brett and Kirk Hines and Allyssa, Shannon and Blake Holmes; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Braden Beachem; and a sister, Ruth Elaine (Glenn) Carnahan of Shelocta.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

<B>LAWTON</B> — Friends of Russell E. Lawton, who died Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the <B>Young Funeral Home</B>, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Mount Chestnut Presbyterian Church, 727 Old Route 422 West, with Pastor Jeffrey Curtis officiating.
