Harvey

Melvin Russell Harvey, 85, of Sarver passed away Sunday at his home.

Born Aug. 26, 1925, in the Harvey homestead, the first settled farm in Clinton Township, on Sarver Road in Sarver, he was the son of W. Russell and Ellen (Kuhn) Harvey.

He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army, 6th division, Co. F, 20th Infantry. He served in the Philippines and Korea.

He retired in 1986 after 40 years of service as a supervisor for T.W. Phillips Gas and Oil.

He was on the board of directors and was the caretaker for Sarverville Cemetery for more than 22 years. He was a lifetime member of the Saxonburg VFW. He was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sarver, where he served on various church offices.

He enjoyed John Deere tractors, mowing grass, gardening and spending time with his family. He also bought the family home in 1952 and completely restored it.

Surviving are his loving wife, Margaret (Raub) Harvey, who he married March 3, 1952; his children, Leslie (Barbara) Harvey of Cabot, Lorrie (Corey) Simmons of Penn Township, Timothy Harvey of Shelocta and Debbie (John) Wichrowski of Sarver; two brothers, Dale (Margaret A.) Harvey of Sarver and Richard (Ella Mae) Harvey of Sarver, his grandchildren, Heather Simmons, Carrie (Jim) Rodgers, Amanda (Jason) Green, Brent Simmons, Melissa (Matt) Kelly, Jennifer Thompson, Megan Harvey-Crissman and Cassie (Jim) Lang; and 16 great-grandchildren with one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Bonnie Harvey; his parents; an infant brother, Robert Harvey; a grandson, Jayce Hatfield; and two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Fullerton and Emma Simmons.

<B>HARVEY </B>—<B> </B>Friends of Melvin Russell Harvey, who died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, will be received at the <B>FOX FUNERAL HOME</B>, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg, on Tuesday and Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Additional visitation will be held Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral services at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Sarver, with the Rev. James F. Neal of Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeport officiating.
