Joseph V. Mercatell, 62, of Tionesta, formerly of Butler, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, as a result of injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident while vacationing with his wife, Michele M. Mercatell, in Jacksonville, Fla. His wife also succumbed to the accident.

He was born June 23, 1948, in Butler, a son of Dorothy (Heichel) Mercatell, who survives in Butler, and the late James Mercatell.

Joe was employed by Knight Protective Services as a security guard. He worked regularly under the control of Homeland Security for the federal government. He was previously employed by General Electric in Erie for more than 20 years, where he worked as a truck driver for awhile and then in dispatching. He previously served as a Tionesta Township, Forest County, supervisor.

On Nov. 23, 1989, in South Carolina, he married Michele M. (Boyles) Mercatell. Joe and his wife very much enjoyed the fun and joys the motorcycle lifestyle offered. They both had many close friends as a result of their passion for motorcycles. Joe loved spending time with his family and friends, especially at motorcycle events or at home having cookouts. He was creative, inventive and artistic and could build and/or create just about anything. He and his wife had a strong passion for life's attributes and all that life had to offer.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Anthony J. "Tony" Mercatell of Adrian, Pa.; Joseph Michael Mercatell, at home and enlisted in the National Guard; a daughter, Kelly Buchinski and her husband, Mike, of Saltsburg, Pa; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers, Jim Mercatell and his wife, Gail, of Cabot and Mike Mercatell and his wife, Ezmeralda, of Florida; five sisters, Carol Chestnut of Petrolia, Linda Hinchberger and her husband, Bill, of Butler, Kathy Moore and her husband, Terry, of Chicora, Joyce Thomas and her husband, Joe, also of Butler and Netty Clinton and her husband, Jeff, of Cabot; and many nieces and nephews.

<B>MERCATELL</B> — A private blessing service for Joseph V. Mercatell, who died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, will be held with Father David L. Poulson of the St. Michael Roman Catholic Church officiating. Friends are welcome to attend an informal celebration of life gathering for the Mercatell's at the West Hickory Community Center in West Hickory, Pa. Saturday, Oct., 2, at 11:30 a.m., where a luncheon will be provided.Arrangements are under the direction of the <B>Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home</B> of Tionesta.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions and donations should be made to the Joseph M. Mercatell Fund, c/o Northwest Savings Bank P.O.
