Well, Betty, if a person has their first child in school and has had the issues you described, how would they know all the procedures and processes to go through?

I have dealt with many parents in the type of situation you described, and believe me, they have no idea where to start. So to assume that everyone, especially parents who are trying to cope with their child's behavioral/academic issues for the first time, is a bit presumptuous.

Most school districts(at least out here) have an extensive list of parent and teacher accommodations that first must be tried , dated, and verified before the student study team will even do basic academic testing to determine the child's strengths and/or deficiencies.

Now Betty, how would any first time parent or teacher ever just "know" that?

If you read your post, one would assume that a parent can go right in to the teacher and expect extensive(and expensive) testing because a child can't sit still or attend to lessons.

Even novice teachers don't know where to start or what advice to give to parents in this situation.

Thus, I would never "just assume" anything.
