EVANS CITY — Three Republican candidates in tight races for Congress stumped for votes here this morning.

The candidates, including U.S. Senate hopeful Pat Toomey, spoke at the Evans City Volunteer Fire Company during a joint news conference. He was joined by Keith Rothfus and Mike Kelly, who are both trying to defeat incumbent Democrats in the House of Representatives.

Toomey told the 100 people in attendance that he needs voters to help push him over the finish line. If they don't, he warned, the implications of several more years of a Democrat-controlled Congress could have ramifications that would reverberate for generations to come.

"This election is close, and it's close for all of us," Toomey said. "The Democratic Senate campaign committee has spent more money attacking me than any other candidate in country.

"This is about for them a desperate attempt to cling to a seat so they can continue to pursue this devastating agenda."

That agenda, Toomey said, includes include government control of health care, tight regulation of the economy coupled with "serial bailouts of failing companies," unprecedented deficit spending and the redistribution of wealth.
