This horse sculpture made of lapis lazuli, a relatively rare blue stone, is part of the new exhibit at the Maridon Museum. The exhibit features art depicting methods of transportation, such as horses, goats and deer made from various materials.

The Maridon Museum presents its "Treasure or Trinket?" event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the museum, 322 N. McKean St.

Appraisals by antiques dealers will be offered. Cost is $5 per item with a 10 item limit. Admission to the museum is included.

Newly on display is an exhibit that gathers representations of modes of travel. The temporary exhibit, which runs through the fall, contains many horses. In Asian art, the horse is an emblem of speed and perseverance.

Also part of the exhibit is a sculpture of the Chinese god of longevity shown riding a stag. The deer was believed by the Chinese to live to a very great age and has itself become an emblem of long life.

Goats are also seen in this exhibit.

Regular hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays; closed Mondays.
