GREENSBURG — Longtime Butler Eagle sports editor Mike Surkalo died today at a Westmoreland County hospital.

Surkalo, who retired in 1985 after 39 years as sports editor, had been living in Greensburg to be near his daughter and her family.

Surkalo was one of the co-founders in 1966 of the Butler Area Sports Hall of Fame, now the Butler County Sports Hall of Fame.

Details of his funeral arrangements are being completed by Geibel Funeral Home in Butler.
