Hazel Montebell McCoy, 82, of Worthington died peacefully Thursday in ACMH Hospital.

She was born July 17, 1928, in Northumberland, a daughter of Harold and Myrtle (Epler) Mertz.

She graduated from Clarion University with a teaching degree. She started teaching in a one-room schoolhouse and later taught at Worthington Elementary and West Hills Elementary schools. She also was the owner of Montebell Twin Lake Par 3 Golf Course.

She was a member of the Worthington Presbyterian Church.

In her spare time, Hazel enjoyed playing cards, knitting, crafts and spending time with her family.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan (Patrick) Martin of Houston, Texas; two sons, Donald (Monica) Montebello of Kittanning, and Larry (Jennie) Montebell of Kittanning; eight grandchildren, Daniel Martin, Christopher Martin, Gretchen (J.T.) Chovanes, Stephen Montebello, Nicholas Montebello, Jenna Montebell, Lauren Montebell and Elena Montebell; and three sisters, Dorcas Peake Welch of Lewisburg, Pa., Janice Beckley of Mifflinburg, Pa., and Florence Slingerland of Williamsport, Pa.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward T. Montebell, who she married Aug. 18, 1951, and who passed away Nov. 13, 1984; her second husband, John McCoy, who she married May 31, 1992, and who passed away Jan. 7, 1994; and a granddaughter, Kerry Diann Martin, who passed away Aug. 19, 1985.

<B>MCCOY</B> — Friends of Hazel Montebell McCoy, who died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>SNYDER-CRISSMAN FUNERAL HOME</B>, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Worthington Presbyterian Church, with one hour of additional viewing at the church before the service. The Rev. Jonathan Speck will officiate.
