Elizabeth Hoffman

Elizabeth M. "Betsy" Hoffman, 101, of Altoona passed away quietly Wednesday night at her home.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late Frederich W. and Edith M. (Seigel) Schacht.

She married J. Paul Hoffman on July 11, 1931, at St. Paul's Church, Chicora. He preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 2006, after their 75th wedding anniversary.

Surviving are a daughter, Dr. Jenny L. Rajput and husband, Dr. M. Akram, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada; a granddaughter, Sabra A. Rajput-Gingras of Sault Ste. Marie; a grandson, Dr. Hussein J. Rajput of Mendota Heights, Minn.; two great-grandchildren, Leila J. and Aaron J. Rajput; two nieces; and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Streby; and two brothers, Robert and Walter Schacht.

She was a graduate of Berlin High School.

She was a member of the Faith United Church of Christ, Altoona, where she served in the choir.

She will be remembered by her family and friends as the baker of excellent pies and hundreds of Christmas cookies as well as for her original sense of humor, kindness and generosity.

<B>HOFFMAN</B> — Friends of Elizabeth M. "Betsy" Hoffman, who died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Mauk & Yates Funeral Home</B>, Juniata, where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday with Pastor John Emig officiating. A committal service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's United Community Church Cemetery, Chicora, by Pastor Randall Forester.
