Edward V. McGill
Edward Vaughn McGill, 82, of Slippery Rock died at 9:42 p.m. Tuesday at Allegheny General Hospital.
Born in Grove City, Mercer County, July 27, 1928, he was the son of Vaughn P. McGill and Agnes E. Snyder.
He was married to Jean Lucille Kelly McGill on Dec. 31, 1960.
He began his military career in the Navy in 1945, where he served for two years before being honorably discharged. He then enlisted in the Marine Corps, where he served for 18 years until his retirement in 1965 as an aircraft electrician.
For a few years, he worked for the Slippery Rock Borough Police Department as well as part time for Uber and Son Furniture Store in Slippery Rock. Later he worked at Slippery Rock University for 22 years, where he retired as chief of police in 1992.
He was a Protestant.
He was a former member of the Slippery Rock Fire Department. He enjoyed watching the Steelers, Pirates and NASCAR races.
Surviving are his wife, Jean K. McGill, of their home in Slippery Rock; and two sons, John C. and his wife, Susan, McGill of Grove City and William L. McGill of Slippery Rock. Also surviving are three granddaughters and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Stanley Datt; and a sister, Wilamenia "Billie" Surrena.
<B>MCGILL</B> — Visitation for Edward Vaughn McGill, who died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Albert Stuart of Highland Presbyterian Church, officiating.
