A goal by Mitchell Walters tied the score late in regulation before Toby Bowser's tally won the game in overtime as the Slippery Rock University men's soccer team defeated No. 15 Ashland (Ohio), 2-1 Friday at Egli Field.
Greg Blum tallied five saves for The Rock (9-2-1), which has won four games in a row.
SRU split a pair of PSAC crossover games, defeating Cheyney 3-0 and falling to West Chester 3-2.The Rock (7-11, 5-5) tallied 15 service aces against Cheyney, while Lexi Arnold and Caroline Houston each had five kills.Sarah Cadwallader managed a career-high 20 kills in the loss to West Chester.
Despite a spirited comeback, SRU fell to host Mansfield, 5-4.The Rock trailed 3-0 early in the second half before goals by Brittany Schultz and Gabrielle Malishchak got the team back in the game.A pair of scores from freshman Kaitlin McGinnis tied the game at 4-all, but Mansfield prevailed on a late goal courtesy of Ashley Bronston.The Rock fell to 1-8 overall with the defeat.
