SHALER — Police said one man is dead and another wounded after a shooting at a Shaler home.

Police Chief Jeffrey Gally told a Pittsburgh newspaper that the shooting happened late Thursday night apparently after two men began shooting at one another in Cherrywood Township.

PITTSBURGH — A physicians' animal rights group has complained to the U.S. Department of Agriculture about the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's use of live pigs to train trauma doctors.UPMC said it complies with all applicable laws in using animals for educational purposes. USDA spokesman David Sacks said the agency will likely have an inspector make sure UPMC is following those laws.The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine filed the complaint on Wednesday. John Pippin, the group's research adviser, told a Pittsburgh newspaper that mannequin simulators or human cadavers are better for training purposes than live animals.

PITTSBURGH — Two anti-abortion activists have sued to overturn a Pittsburgh law designed to curb littering, because they say it also curbs their free speech rights. Kathleen Ramsey, of Ross Township, and Albert Brunn, of Pittsburgh, filed the federal lawsuit and are represented by the American Center for Law & Justice, an evangelical Christian group.The ordinance bans placing flyers on parked vehicles or from distributing such materials "so as to cause litter or unreasonably interfere with pedestrians or traffic."
