Pryor

Alan Lynn "Al" Pryor, 54, of Meyers Hollow Road, Parker, passed away at his home on Saturday.

He was born in Clarion, Aug. 1, 1956, and was a son of John Pryor of the McKinley Health Center in Brookville and the late Betty Eshbaugh Pryor.

He was a member of the Sligo Presbyterian Church and was a graduate of the Union High School, Class of 1974. From 1974 until 1978, he attended and graduated from Clarion University with a bachelor's degree in social studies with a master's equivalent in secondary education and a minor degree in athletic coaching. He received a degree in earth science from Clarion University in 1995.

At the time of his death, he was a member of the teaching staff at the Union School District since 1995, where he taught science and geography, and he was the high school football coach at Union since 2008.

He was a member of the Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association and the Football Coaches Professional Growth Association and had a love for coaching high school sports and was able to make science and geography interesting and fun for his students.

He was head girls track coach at Union High School from 2008 until the present; assistant girls track coach at Union from 2003 until 2007; offensive coordinator, quarterback and defensive line coach at Moniteau High School, football season of 2007; game manager at Union High School, 2005 until the present; Senior League Baseball coach, 2000 until 2002 at Union; offensive coordinator, quarterback and defensive line coach at Keystone High School 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005; varsity football coach at Union, 1996 until 2000 and then 2008 until the present; weight conditioning coach at Union, 1996 until 2000 and then 2008 until the present; in charge of the Grid Iron Letterman Club Lift-a-thon event 1996 until 2000; NFL/Gatorade co-chairman for local event 1996 until 2000; Metro Index Football Camp linebacker coach, 1996 until 1999; attended Kent State Football Camp, 1998 until 2000; YMCA basketball coach, years 1997 and 1998; head junior high football coach at Union High School, 1988 until 1995; assistant junior high football coach at Union, 1978 until 1983; Union basketball coach, 1997 and 1998; volunteer assistant girls track coach, 1978 and 1979; a member of the Golden Historical Society, 1995 to the present; attended the Science Olympiad, 1995 until the present; coached at other school districts during his 30-year career, namely the Keystone School District for two years, the Moniteau School District, where he was varsity assistant during the 2006 football season and was girls track coach and sports event planner for a number of years at Union School District.

Other teaching assignments he had at Union School District were seventh grade world geography, eighth grade earth science, and weight conditioning.

He also was the co-owner of Bliss-Pryor Reclamation from 1979 until 1995.

He married the former Donna J. Stewart on Dec. 17, 1983, in Rimersburg. She survives along with two sons, Andrew Lee Pryor and Nicholas Alan Pryor; both at home; his father, John W. Pryor of Brookville; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Velma Stewart of Parker; three brothers, Dean William Pryor and his wife, Melody, of Carwick, Dr. LeRoy Edward Pryor and his wife, Madeline, of Brookville and Scott John Pryor and his wife, Brenda, of Cortland, Ohio; a sister, Joyce McClafferty and her husband, J. Kevin, of Hookstown; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother on May 9, 2009.

<B>PRYOR</B> — Friends of Alan Lynn "Al" Pryor, who died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home </B>in Rimersburg. Friends also will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Sligo Presbyterian Church, where the funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday with his pastor the Rev. Stephanie J.
