Walter Franklin Yeager Sr., 87, of Berlin Center, Ohio, died at 12:20 a.m. Friday at the Blossom Care Center in Salem, Ohio, following a short illness.

Walter was born Sept. 10, 1922, to the late Albert and Helen Hawkins Yeager.

Born at home in Ellsworth Township, Ohio, he graduated from Canfield High School.

Walter worked at Mullins in Salem and then retired in 1986 from Taylor Winfield in Warren, where he worked as an inspector for 33 years.

He was a member of the Western Reserve School Board for more than 20 years, and was a Mahoning County Vocational School Board member for more than 20 years. He was a retired member of Berlin-Ellsworth Ruritan Club and was a 4-H adviser for Ellsworth Junior Farmers for more than 69 years. He was a member of the Canfield AARP.

He will be missed by his wife of 65 years, the former Doris Handwork, whom he married on Dec. 9, 1944; five children, Bonnie J. (Charles) Tieche of Canfield, Don F. (Doria) Yeager of Millville, N.J., LeRoy A. (Carolyn) Yeager of West Sunbury, Walter F. (Melodie) Yeager Jr. of Canfield, and Todd S. (Kriss) Yeager of North Jackson; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Conrad, and a grandson, Jason Yeager.
