Firefighters called to store in Cranberry Twp.

CRANBERRY TWP — A half-dozen fire companies from around the area responded to calls of a structure fire this morning at the Famous Footwear store on Route 228.

The store's manager reported smelling burning paper when he arrived to open the store around 8:30 a.m. and said he suspected there was a fire in the roof. Crews found a little smoke in the building, but no flames. Firefighters were sent into the store and onto its roof to investigate.

The manager, who declined to give his name, said firefighters told him the burning smell could have come from a heating duct in the store, but that he still wasn't sure what caused the smell.

Crews also blocked the entrance to the plaza, which also contained AT&T and the Pretzel Factory among its businesses.

Some trucks began returning to their stations around 9:45 a.m., after it was clear that there was no fire.

Firefighters from Cranberry, Adams Area Fire District and Zelienople in Butler County, Marshall Township in Allegheny County and Rochester and Big Knob in Beaver County responded to the call.
