Shelby Ward scored late in the first half to lead the Slippery Rock University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Edinboro Wednesday at Egli Field.

The game's only goal came in the 35th minute, when Ward took a pass from Danielle Turner, dribbled around Edinboro goalkeeper Kate Stukbauer and found an open net.

SRU (6-3, 4-3) finished with a 9-3 edge in total shots and held the Fighting Scots (6-2-1, 3-2-1) to one shot on goal.

Field hockeySRU (2-6, 0-2) dropped a 2-1 decision to Mercyhurst (2-5, 1-0) at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium despite getting a goal from senior forward Katie Krouse.The Rock had a 26-9 advantage in shots. Senior goalie Lisa Belcastro made three saves.
