HARRISBURG — Vice President Joe Biden will headline a rally at Penn State next week as part of a push by Democrats to excite young voters.

Democratic National Committee regional press secretary Michael Czin said Tuesday's rally is being held in conjunction with an event being held with President Barack Obama at the University of Wisconsin.

Young voters could be key to Democratic hopefuls in Pennsylvania. Congressman Joe Sestak trails Republican Pat Toomey in the race to replace Democrat Arlen Specter in the Senate, and Republican Tom Corbett leads Democrat Dan Onorato in the governor's race.

The rallies are part of ramped up efforts by the White House before the Nov. 2 general elections.

PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh-area man whose wife is awaiting trial on charges she fatally shot an FBI agent faces at least 20 years in prison on drug charges that brought the agent to their home that day.Robert Korbe, 41, of Indiana Township, Allegheny County, pleaded guilty in May to cocaine trafficking. He was to be sentenced today for that crime and others, including illegally possessing four guns — one of which his wife, Christina, used to kill FBI agent Samuel Hicks in November 2008.Christina Korbe acknowledges the shooting, but has claimed she thought the agent was an intruder.Robert Korbe faces the minimum 20-year sentence as an armed career criminal. But federal prosecutors say that's not enough to deter Korbe, who rates a longer sentence based on his "despicable" behavior, including allegedly laughing at Hicks' shooting.

ALLENTOWN — An eastern Pennsylvania woman whose toddler died in a bedroom accident after she left him unsupervised pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.Prosecutors say Marianella Torres-Matos left her 14-month-old son and his 2-year-old sister alone in an Allentown apartment while she ran errands. Authorities say she locked them in a bedroom for about two hours Nov. 19.Torres-Matos later discovered a 160-pound dresser had toppled onto her son. The child was revived but died at a hospital.Torres-Matos wept Thursday at the Lehigh County Court hearing, during which the 27-year-old also pleaded guilty to corruption of minors in an unrelated case.She faces up to 15 years in prison when she is sentenced Nov. 1.

PITTSBURGH — A fired Pittsburgh police sergeant will return to duty next week with his full rank and pay after challenging his firing once he was found not guilty of assaulting a former girlfriend.Eugene Hlavac Jr., 42, was found not guilty in April of charges he slapped the woman so hard he dislocated her jaw. Hlavac maintained his innocence and testified that his hand hit the woman's face only as he made a "defensive" motion to push her away while she was punching him.Police spokeswoman Diane Richard said an arbitration panel will meet Monday to determine the ground rules for Hlavac's return to the force. The panel includes a city law department official, a union representative, a police official and a neutral arbiter.
