Did you know the first vote a Congressperson takes is to elect the Speaker of the House? This is a very important position. The Speaker is 3rd in line to the Presidency and literally controls the legislative agenda. They are the quarterback that calls our nation's plays.

The Speaker Education Project is a non-partisan, educational group simply trying to document what Congressional candidates say when asked the question "If elected in November, who would you support for Speaker of the House?" Incidentally, it is a little known fact that the Speaker of the House does not even have to be an elected member of Congress. It could be me, you, Oprah or Colin Powell. Perhaps the public should begin a dialogue to make a trusted outsider - not a politician - the Speaker?

Until then, it is a very important question for current candidates. Do they support Republican John Boehner? Do they support Democrat Nancy Pelosi? Did they answer the question or try to avoid it?
