James Joseph Bell

James Joseph Bell, 84, of Leesburg-Grove City Road, Springfield Township, Mercer County, died Friday at Grove Manor, Grove City.

He was born on Sept. 25, 1925, in Grove City, the son of John Frederick Bell and Catherine Brawley Bell.

Mr. Bell retied from the Kroger grocery store in Grove City after 27 years in the produce department. He retired a second time from Grove City College where he worked in maintenance.

He served in World War II in the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division.

He was a member of the Grove City Knights of Columbus and the Church of the Beloved Disciple in Grove City.

He is survived by a son, Kenneth J. and his wife, Donna, Bell of Slippery Rock; a brother, John and his wife, Marge, Bell of Mercer; a sister-in-law, Betty Bell of Grove City; three grandchildren, Steven, Kristian and Katie Bell; and two step-grandchildren, Andrew and David Bell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Marie Anderson Bell, who died in 1998; his parents; a son, William Joseph Bell; a grandson, Ryan; and a brother, Fred.

<B>BELL — </B>Friends of James Joseph Bell, who died Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the <B>SMITH FUNERAL HOME, </B>1778 Perry Highway, Leesburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Beloved Disciple, Route 208, Grove City, with the Rev. Mark Hoffman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Crestview Memorial Park, Grove City.Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Beloved Disciple, Building Fund, 1310 S. Center St. Ext., Grove City, PA 16127.
