Vera Mae Gumpp
Vera Mae Gumpp, 77, of Slippery Rock Township died Saturday at UPMC Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh.
Born Dec. 1, 1932, in Mercer Township, she was the daughter of Harry Johnston and Alice Kelly Johnston.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Gumpp, who she married July 12, 1988.
She was preceded in death by a previous husband, Gordon E. Knight, who died June 11, 1984.
She had worked for Sheetz in Slippery Rock, where she was the second person hired in the store's startup, and in Grove City.
She previously worked for Value King in Slippery Rock and the Bread Box, owned by Marhoefer Bakery in Slippery Rock.
She attended the Slippery Rock United Methodist Church.
She was a very hard worker and enjoyed camping, fishing and country music.
She also is survived by three sons, Rick (Linda) Knight of Slippery Rock, Steve (Donna) Knight of Harrisville and Don (Robin) Knight of Grove City; one daughter, Debra (John) Reeder of Grove City; four stepsons, Lee Gumpp of Butler, Clyde (Betty) Gumpp of Slippery Rock, Kevin Gumpp of Mt. Chestnut, and Warren (Linda) Gumpp; four stepdaughters, Julie (Scott) Crooks of Karns City, Karen (Bob) Little of Fredonia, Norma (Harold) Johnson of Sharpsville, and Carol (Ron) Byers of Slippery Rock; one sister, Margaret Colosimo of Slippery Rock; 33 grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Cleora Lyons; two brothers, Boyd and Bob Johnston; an infant son; and an infant daughter.
<B>GUMPP — </B>Friends of Vera Mae Johnston Gumpp, who died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>SMITH FUNERAL HOME</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Pamela Gardner will officiate. Interment will follow at Slippery Rock Cemetery.
