SANGER, Texas (AP) — Texas authorities say 18 people are injured after a charter bus from Dallas to Oklahoma City struck a highway barrier early today.

The Texas Department of Public safety says in a release that the bus crashed near Sanger, which is about 50 miles north of Dallas. The bus didn't overturn, but some passengers were ejected through side windows that broke on impact.

The bus driver tells officials the accident happened when he tried to avoid a vehicle swerving in front of him.

Eighteen of the 33 bus passengers were taken to three area hospitals with varying degrees of injuries, including one who was transported in serious condition. The hospitals declined to release condition updates Saturday morning.
