PITTSBURGH — For the first time, Carnegie Science Center will offer Miniature Railroad & Village Behind-the-Scenes Workshops on Oct. 2 and 9.

Participants will go on a detailed tour of the exhibit as they learn how staff members create scenery and how the animations work. The workshops include the opportunity to build a tree that will be inserted into the display.

The Behind-the-Scenes Workshops will take place from noon to 3 p.m. and are designed for adults and young enthusiasts age 10 and older. Children younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult, and capacity is limited.

Cost is $20 for non-members and $15 for members. Registration is required. Call 412-237-1637.

The Miniature Railroad & Village will be closed to the general public beginning Monday. It will reopen Nov. 20 for the 2010 holiday season.
