Blue Ribbons
Winners of the Nature & Wildlife exhibit at The Art Center, 344 S. Main St., were announced during opening night festivities Friday.
Best of Show was garnered by William T. Perry of Harmony for his watercolor painting, "Chimp."
Other winners include:
• Mark Anderson, first place for "Spring Turkey," and second place for "Winter Whitetail"• Josh Emery, third place for "There's a Fine Line Between Finding Yourself and Losing Your Way"
• Harry S. Price, first place for stoneware, iron and wood sculpture "Ferdinando"• Sarah Vorel, second place for natural wood sculpture "The Dogwood"• Trevor King, third place for ceramic "Tree Mugs"
• Jesse Allen, first place for "Sea Oats"• Tina Shearer, second place for "Leafs Veil"• Aryl Bashline, third place for "Autumn at Brush Creek"
These honorable mentions were also awarded by Judge Stephen Harding to the following pieces of art:• "State Gamelands," a painting by Josh Emery• "Fight or Flight," a photograph by Bill Cooper• "Grand Canyon Vista," an acrylic painting by James Hulings• "Deadlock," a drawing by Lynn Roberts• "Detritus," a fiber art piece by Shelley G. Brown.The Nature & Wildlife exhibit will remain in place through Oct. 8. Admission is free. Gallery hours are noon to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays and noon to 4 p.m Saturdays.
Other upcoming events at The Art Center are:• Deadline is Oct. 8 for art entries to the Underground Gallery "Art of Horror V" exhibit.• Deadline is Oct. 9 for art entries to both the "Butler County Art & Artists" exhibit and the Sunnyview Memory Care Unit "Visual Art Stimulation" art competition.• Opening night is Oct. 15 for the Underground Gallery "Art of Horror V" exhibit (6 PM)• Opening night is Oct. 22 for the "Butler County Art & Artists " exhibit, at which the winners of the Sunnyview Visual Art Stimulation art competition will be announced. This will be an AABC fundraiser catered event and "Meet the Artists" night with musical performances by classical guitarist Troy Downing and the Jim Cunningham jazz band, hors d'ouevres and a cash wine/beer bar celebrating the end of the AABC's 75th Anniversary year. Admission is $35 per person.• The Annual Holiday Show & Sale opens Dec. 3 and runs through Dec. 31.Art classes in a variety of media including painting, sculpture and jewelry-making are available at The Art Center for $5 an hour.
