ALLISON PARK — Butler Country Club pro Rob McClellan won the 2010 Cleveland Golf/Srixon Match Play Championship Thursday at Wildwood Golf Club.

McClellan defeated Scott Davis 6 & 5 in the semifinals, then toppled Mike Ferry 7 & 6 in the finals to win $3,000.

LEMONT, Ill. — Already having a great season, Matt Kuchar got off to his best start of the year at the BMW Championship.In a mystery season for Tiger Woods, he had his worst round at Cog Hill in five years.Kuchar, a winner already in the opening FedEx Cup playoff event, wasted no time putting his name atop the leaderboard Thursday by finishing with an 18-foot birdie putt for a 7-under 64 and a one-shot lead over Ryan Moore.Woods, the defending champion, started with a double bogey and never got it back. He shot 73, the same score he had in the first round of the 2005 Western Open.

BOSTON — New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was unhurt in a two-vehicle accident near his home Thursday and hours later practiced as usual with his team just days before the season opener.He then agreed to a four-year extension that would make him the NFL's highest paid player, according to a person with knowledge of the contract.The contract is worth an average of $19 million per year and begins in 2011, said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the paperwork had not yet been filed with the NFL. Brady is making $6.5 million this season.

ZURICH — FIFA's president has asked two of the governing body's committees to examine scrapping extra time at the 2014 World Cup and encourage more attacking play.Sepp Blatter said Thursday changes could include going directly to a penalty shootout if teams are tied after 90 minutes in a knockout match, or reintroducing the golden goal rule that applied at the 1998 and 2002 World Cups, in which the first goal of extra-time decides the game.FIFA's Football and Technical & Development committees will study the issues when they both meet Oct. 18.
