The Butler County Commissioners are considering cutting the amount of annual raises elected county officials get.

The commissioners on Wednesday set a public meeting for 6 p.m. Sept. 21 in the county Government Center's meeting room where the changes will be discussed.

Julie Graham, county solicitor, said the cost of living plan was set in 1984, giving each elected official a 4 percent to 8 percent raise annually.

Commissioner Dale Pinkerton, chairman, said he had met with all the row officers and they agreed the rates of increase ought to be between 1.5 percent and 4 percent.

"You have to look at the economy and nobody is getting those big increases anymore," he said. "You have to be more like what the county residents are getting."

The commissioners will vote later on whether to make the change.
