Slippery Rock resident wins singing contest
Lyric McCommons
Lyric McCommons, 20, of Slippery Rock won a singing competition called A Taste of Talent earlier this month in Franklin.
Her triumph came at the finale on Aug. 1, but the competition started in June, then went through a monthlong break before the semifinals started July 31.
The competition started with 12 participants, who were whittled down weekly.
For the semifinals, McCommons sang "Alone" by Heart, and for the finale she sang "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion.
For winning the competition, McCommons received $1,000 and a three-song recording session.
She also sings with her sister and parents in a gospel group called One In Spirit.
