HARMONY — A lemonade stand on Main Street today will raise money for a new skateboard park planned at Zelienople Community Park.

The lemonade stand, which was proposed by the grandchildren of Kim Forte — Ali, Chais, Isaaz and Prestin — will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Forte's home at 562 Main St., across from the former Kasing's car dealership.

All the proceeds raised will go toward funding the skatepark.

Linda Gass, the mother of Trevor Barkley, said she is touched by the effort.

"They really wanted to do something for the skatepark," she said.

There are a number of fundraising events planned in the coming months that will be announced later, Gass said.

It was her son's dream for a skateboard park in the Zelienople Community Park.

Barkley and his two friends, Sam Bucci and Elijah Lunsford, had been working on a skatepark poster for his Seneca Valley High School senior project when their vehicle went off an icy road and they drowned in a sportsmen's club lake in January.

Friends and family gathered in July with plans for the Zelienople Memorial Skatepark to help make Barkley's dream become a reality.

Gass said the motto for the fundraising efforts will be "For Their Dream."

The skate park would be built in honor of the three young men who died in the accident as well as in honor of Seneca Valley graduate Geoff Gutzwiller, who also was an avid skateboarder and who died at a young age.

The proposed concrete skate park would include a half-pipe and would be near the swimming pool area at the site of the basketball court.

The skateboard park's cost, which would include relocating the basketball court to a spot near the tennis courts, is estimated at $385,000.

Donations can be made at Fidelity Bank, 251 S. Main St. in Zelienople in care of the Zelienople Memorial Skatepark Fund.

Donations also are being accepted through the Friends of the Park website at www.myzeliepark.org through the group's donation button.
