Kovach

Ann S. Kovach, 89, of Eberhart Road in Butler died Monday at the Hamot Medical Center in Erie.

She was born June 4, 1921, in Butler, a daughter of the late John and Mary Dunda Sherba.

Ann was a 1939 graduate of Butler High School and was a homemaker, mother and grandmother. She formerly worked in the credit department at Montgomery Ward as a bookkeeper. As a young lady, she worked as a secretary for the government in the post office building in Butler.

Ann was a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora. She was a former member of the Repass Committee and the Ladies' Guild at her church.

Her husband. Andrew "Andy" Kovach, who she married Sept. 22, 1945, preceded her in death on April 3, 2006.

Surviving are her son and his wife, Andrew P. and Cathy Kovach of Munhall; four daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Mary) Jameson of Nevada, Mrs. Julieann Purpura of Erie, Andrea Kovach of Arizona and Mrs. Jack (Helen) Harper of Ohio; and two sisters, Mrs. Sue Herman and Mrs. Julia Buzas, both of Butler. Nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive her.

Her son-in-law, Matthew Purpura, and three grandchildren, Adam Purpura, Nicholas Jameson and Jacqueline Joy Kovach, preceded her in death. Two brothers, Michael and Stephen "Skippy" Sherba, and two sisters, Mary Malis and Helen Semanco, are also deceased.

<B>KOVACH</B> — Friends of Ann S. Kovach, who died Monday, July 12, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home, </B>201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora.
