Edith R. Thompson, 82, of West Sunbury went home to be with the Lord at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday at the Butler VNA Inpatient Hospice.

She was born Jan. 23, 1928, in Tarentum. She was the daughter of the late George Hoak and Florence Jenkins Hoak.

She was a former member of the West Sunbury United Presbyterian Church.

She was a nurse's aide at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for 17 years, and she also provided private duty nursing for many families in the area for a number of years.

She married Lawrence Thompson on Aug. 24, 1946.

She was an awesome wife, mother and grandmother, who always made sure everyone around her was cared for.

She loved the Lord and attended the West Unity Community Church in Harrisville for the past 15 years.

She enjoyed reading and bowled in a league until the age of 81. She loved her pets, especially her 15-year-old cat, Cissie, and her "grand dogs," Sammie, Ginger and Isabella.

She is survived by three sons, Dennis Thompson and his wife, Mary Lou, of Karns City, Douglas Thompson and his wife, Linda, of Volant and Barry Thompson of Florida; eight grandchildren, Kathy Thompson Smith and her husband, Jim, Krissy Thompson Alm and her husband, Jeremy, Jennifer Davis Long and her husband, Jason, Lauren Davis, Michael Murphy and his wife, April, Jackie Murphy Thiry and her husband, David, Mackenzie Renee Thompson, and Ashley Paige Thompson; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Two sisters, Mildred McKamish of Butler and Patricia Nicolazzo and her husband, Michael, of Butler; one brother, Clifford Hoak and his wife, Evelyn, of Sarver; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away Feb. 1, 1988; one sister, three brothers; and one great-grandson.

<B>THOMPSON</B> — Friends of Edith R. Thompson, who died Wednesday, July 7, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Friday at the <B>William F. Young Funeral Home</B>, 132 Main St., West Sunbury. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the West Unity Community Church with the Rev. Boyd Smith, her pastor, officiating. Everyone is asked to meet at the church. Burial will be in the West Sunbury Union Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
