An East Butler man accepted responsibility for a hit-and-run crash last fall that killed a bicyclist in the city.

Patrick L. Duncan, 30, in court pleaded guilty today to a felony count of accidents involving death or personal injury, as well as driving under the influence and driving with a license that already had been suspended for DUI.

According to the plea arrangement, prosecutors will drop additional changes against Duncan, including homicide by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter.

In exchange, Duncan will face a sentence of 1 to 2 years, minus a day, in the Butler County Prison.

Duncan, who already has been incarcerated since his arrest Nov. 7, also will serve an undetermined amount of probation and pay $1,250 in fines and restitution.

Duncan will be sentenced Sept. 16 by Butler County Judge Timothy McCune.

Initially, Duncan reportedly told investigators he was not the driver during the Nov. 6 crash that killed 21-year-old Jayson Cramer.

Butler police said Cramer was pedaling to a friend's house about 10:40 p.m. when a 1992 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight on Zeigler Avenue hit his bike and caused him to suffer fatal head injuries.

Duncan, when questioned by city police, reportedly identified the car's owner as the driver: his stepsister, Kirsten K. Frey, 27, of Butler.

Frey, who first told investigators Duncan had been driving, later said she could not be certain because she "blacked out" from drinking too much that night, police said.
