Dorothy J. Sheffer Timmis, 91, of the Concordia Lutheran Center, Cabot, formerly of Eau Claire, passed away at 11:05 a.m. Sunday at the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia.

Born in Monroe Township, Clarion County, Feb. 20, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Sheldon M. and Laura A. McCleary Sheffer.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Butler, and had been a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Eau Claire for most of her life.

Dorothy served as a deputy sheriff with the Butler County Sheriff's Department for more than 15 years, retiring in 1979.

She was a longtime member of the Republican Executive Committee for Butler County and had served as Republican Committeewoman for Eau Claire for 55 years.

She was an avid bridge and 500 card enthusiast, as well as longtime golfer with various leagues.

Surviving are a daughter, Sherry Timmis Schatz and her husband, Ken, of Surprise, Ariz.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, Garfield M. "Tim" Timmis, who she married Sept. 25, 1937, and who passed away March 13, 2008; a daughter, Carol Hope Timmis; and a brother, DeWayne Sheffer.

<B>TIMMIS</B> — Friends of Dorothy J. Sheffer Timmis, who died Sunday, July 4, 2010, may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home</B>, 201 S. Washington St., Eau Claire. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Jack Hartman, chaplain of Concordia, officiating.
