A business jet damaged in a landing lies at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wis., Tuesday. NASCAR team owner Jack Roush remained in serious but stable condition in a Wisconsin hospital Wednesday after walking away from Tuesday's crash.

MILWAUKEE — NASCAR team owner Jack Roush remained hospitalized in serious but stable condition Wednesday, one day after he walked away from a plane crash in Wisconsin.

In a statement, Roush Fenway Racing said Roush is under observation for facial injuries he sustained in the accident.

The team said Roush's passenger, his friend Brenda Stricklin, was treated and released from the hospital Wednesday.

Roush — an aviation buff who survived another crash in 2002 — was attending the Experimental Aircraft Association's annual AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis.

APOLLO — Paige Wojdyla of Cranberry Township and Mackey Fouse of Center Township placed second in their respective age groups at the Kings Restaurants Junior Golf Tournament Tuesday at Willowbrook Country Club.Wojdyla carded an 82 and lost on the second playoff hole to Brittany Borkovich of Export in the girls 16-to-18 age division.Fouse also carded an 82 and lost on the second playoff hole to Lauren Waller of Canonsburg in the girls ages 14-to-15 division.

FARMINGTON — Based on points, eight Butler County golfers qualified for the Kings/Tri-State PGA Player of the Year Championship Aug. 5 at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort.Michael McNulty of Harmony (age 17-and-18 division), and Brent Rodgers and Nicklaus Cuny of Cranberry Township (age 14) qualified for the boys event.Paige Wojdyla of Cranberry Township, Brittany Massie and Annie Bozich of Center Township (ages 16-18), Elena Bilotto of Mars, and Mackey Fouse and Jocelyn Sudar of Center Township (ages 14-15) qualified for the girls tournament.

ADAMS TWP — Nathan Furl, a member of the Mars 14-year-old all-star baseball team, won the Golden Arm throwing competition based on accuracy and distance at the recent Beast of the East Tournament in West Virginia.Mars was competing in the 42-team event that featured squads from seven states and Canada.

The career of the late Ed Vargo, a longtime major league umpire and Butler resident, will be honored during Butler BlueSox pregame ceremonies Friday night at Pullman Park.The BlueSox host Chillicothe (Ohio) at 6:35 p.m. Pre-game ceremonies begin at about 6:15 p.m. and will include Vargo's family and brief comments from longtime friends Merril Moses and Jim Lokhaiser.

WASHINGTON — Nationals rookie right-hander Stephen Strasburg first sensed tightness in his pitching shoulder "a couple days ago," he said Wednesday, chalking it up to "kind of hitting the wall a little bit."A day after being scratched minutes before what was supposed to be the 10th major league start of his much-hyped career, Strasburg said he felt "a lot better" and his range of motion is "starting to come back."Washington general manager Mike Rizzo and trainer Lee Kuntz said Strasburg did not indicate he had a problem before Tuesday, when his pregame bullpen session ended about six throws in.

OKLAHOMA CITY — Bob Fenimore, a two-time All-American who became the top pick in the 1947 NFL draft, died Wednesday in Stillwater after a fight with cancer. He was 84.Fenimore was a star on offense and defense for Oklahoma A&M in the 1940s, highlighted by his 1945 season when he led the nation in total offense and rushing, finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting and led the Aggies to a perfect 9-0 season.That season, which ended with a 33-13 win against Saint Mary's (Calif.) in the Sugar Bowl, remains the only undefeated season in the history of the school now known as Oklahoma State.

SAN DIEGO — Antonio Gates has caught plenty of big passes for the San Diego Chargers, and he hauled in the biggest contract given to a tight end.Gates agreed to a $36.175 million, five-year contract extension, with $20.4 million guaranteed, according to a person familiar with the deal, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the figures weren't released.
