Sheakley

Estella May "Stella" Sheakley, 98, of Sycamore Road, Karns City, the Fredericksburg area, passed away at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at her home following failing health.

She was born in West Freedom, Clarion County, May 6, 1912, a daughter of the late Harrison S. Weckerly and Celia Estella Fox Weckerly.

She was a lifelong member of the West Freedom United Methodist Church and was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and the Women's Outreach Ministry.

She attended the West Freedom Elementary School and then graduated from Parker High School in the Class of 1929, where she was salutatorian. She was most likely the last surviving member of her graduating class.

She enjoyed bowling with her husband Charles, and she was a member of the Women's Tri-County League at the Bruin Bowling Lanes.

She and her husband enjoyed their summer home in Clearfield County near Pennfield, where they spent many weekends and vacations while raising their children.

She married Charles R. Sheakley on Aug. 20, 1930, in Callensburg, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 4, 1980.

Surviving are two sons, Richard H. Sheakley and his wife, Frances L., of Bruin and Charles LeRoy Sheakley and his wife, Norma Jean, of Louisville, Ky.; a daughter, Ruth Ilene Sheakley of Sycamore Road, Karns City; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Harriet Brown of Fort Collins, Colo.; a number of nieces and nephews; and four cousins.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Megan Michelle Wilkins; one great-grandson, Christopher Epley; one great-great-granddaughter, Natika Rose Nolder; two brothers, Homer and Samuel Weckerly; and one sister, Dorothy Weckerly Smith.

<B>SHEAKLEY</B> — Friends of Estella May "Stella" Sheakley, who died Saturday, June 26, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home </B>in Petrolia and from 10 until 11 a.m. Wednesday at the West Freedom United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Ken Hughes, associate pastor and the Rev. Dan Myers, her cousin and pastor of the Mount Joy United Methodist Charge, officiating.
