HARRISBURG — Fuel spilled from a tanker truck that crashed and overturned on a south-central Pennsylvania highway is leaking into the Susquehanna River.

State Trooper Ed Asbury said today that fuel has traveled as far as 8 to 10 miles down the river.

He said downriver communities, including the city of Harrisburg, have been warned.

Firefighters were putting booms on the river to contain the fuel, which traveled through a drainage intake about 10 miles northwest of Harrisburg.

PennDOT said Routes 22/322 in Dauphin and Perry counties were closed around 7 a.m. and traffic detoured.
