Edna May Beer

Edna May Beer, 92, of Whispering Acres, Chicora, formerly of Fredericksburg Road, Karns City, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at Whispering Acres after a period of failing health.

She was born in Perry Township, Armstrong County, May 12, 1918, and was a daughter of the late Pierce Shakley and Goldie I. Slaughenhoupt Shakley.

She was a former member of St. Paul's Reformed Church in Fairview and attended the Criswell Elementary School and Karns City High School.

She was a member of the Bruin Senior Center.

She enjoyed gardening, her flowers, baking, quilting and sewing.

She married Harold R. "Hap" Beer on June 12, 1940, in Chicora; and he preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 1979.

Surviving are a son, Raymond H. Beer and his wife, Suzanne, of Ridge Drive, Karns City; a daughter, Audrey I. Orsborn and the Rev. Hughie Orsborn of Renfrew; six grandchildren, Marie Brown and her husband, Dean, of Circleville, N.Y., Colleen Rodgers and her husband, John, of Fenelton, Lisa Orton and her husband, Todd, of Layton, Utah, Ivy Hullihen and her husband, James, of Shirleysburg, Huntingdon County, Timothy Orsborn of Burgbernheim, Germany, and Daniel Orsborn of Indianapolis, Ind.; eight great-grandchildren, Naomi Hullihen and Noah Hullihen, both of Shirleysburg, Nathan and Camryn Brown of Circleville, N.Y., Nicholas, Elaina and Alexa Rodgers, all of Fenelton and Skyler Orton of Layton, Utah; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Emmet Shakley; and one sister, Mildred Bly and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

<B>BEER</B> — Friends of Edna May Beer, who died Tuesday, June 15, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home </B>in Petrolia. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday from the funeral home with the Rev. Richard F. Rowe, a retired Presbyterian pastor, officiating.
