PITTSBURGH --The cost to attend the University of Pittsburgh is going up.

The university board of trustees today approved tuition increases ranging from 2.5 percent for students at the university's four regional campuses, to 3 percent for out-of-state students at the Pittsburgh campus, and to 5.5 percent for in-state students at the Pittsburgh campus.

Tuition rates for both in-state and out-of-state students in the School of Dental Medicine will go up 2.5 percent.

The tuition increases were in the $1.9 billion university budget for the 2011 fiscal year, which the trustees approved.

The budget also includes a 3 percent salary increase pool. The salaries of university faculty and staff were frozen last year.
